According to a report by Sunnews,  Anambra State Command of the Department of
State Services (DSS) has made another
breakthrough in the war against criminal
activities in the state

as its personnel on
Monday rescued a kidnap victim, Pius Maduka
after his family had paid N12 million ransom
to the kidnappers.
The victim, Maduka, who is a motorcycle spare
parts dealer in Nnewi and an elder brother to
business mogul and Chief Executive Officer of
Coscharis Group, Chief Cosmas Maduka, was
abducted on July 4, 2014 at Umudim, Nnewi
in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the
state by gunmen believed to be kidnappers on
his way to his office.
The combined team of the DSS and Army, who
carried out the operation also arrested two
members of the gang and shot the third dead,
as he attempted to escape, just as they
recovered the 607 Peugeot car with
registration number No. GGE 31 BC, which the
suspects used for the operation.
Those suspects arrested and paraded
according to the State Director of Security,
Anambra State, Mr. Alex Okeiyi, who briefed
newsmen on the operation are, Chigozie, who
hails from Umungwa Obowo but lives in
Amaifeke Orlu in Imo State and in whose
house the victim was kept and Bartholomew
(aka Jack-Moore) from Umunze in Orumba
South Local Government, Anambra State while
Ikechukwu from Nwangele Local Government
Area of Imo State was shot dead.
Okeiyi said: “The gang had demanded ransom
in the sum of N100 million, which it scaled
down to N50 million. The victim’s family had
paid the sum of N12 million, expecting he
would be released but the hoodlums refused
to do so, insisting on payment of the
outstanding N38 million, until the rescue
operation.
“Investigation showed the same gang was
responsible for the kidnap of one Michael
Okoli (aka American Sergeant) in Umunze,
Orumba South LGA on 6th June, 2014. His
cousin, Nnaemeka Nzekwe, suspected to have
sold him out, was arrested by operatives on
12th July, 2014 in Umunze.
“The investigation also showed the hideout
where Maduka was rescued has been an old
camp of the gang, where several victims
kidnapped in Anambra State, including Okoli,
and Imo state, were kept until ransoms were
paid for their release.”
Okeiyi expressed joy that the leader of the
gang identified as Ifeanyi (aka Obele) was
arrested by the River State Command of DSS
the same Monday, adding “The suspect
collected the N12 million ransom paid by
Maduka’s family and is said to provide
weapons for the gang.”
The DSS state boss thanked the DGSS and
Governor Willie Obiano for their support in the
fight against criminality in the state, just as
he commend the gallant efforts of the
operatives involved in the investigation of the
kidnap and subsequent rescue mission and
other security agencies in the state.
Speaking to newsmen the three suspects
arrested confirmed their involvements in the
gang and affirming Obele as their leader.
Narrating his ordeal in the hands of the
kidnappers, Maduka who was constantly
praising God for his rescue said he was
starved for three days before he was fed with
two slices of bread and one sachet of pure
water daily.
He said, “As I came out of the booth they
blindfolded me, tie my legs and hands and
dumped me inside one room since that day,
beating me, torturing me and asking for very
huge amount that should be provided by my
younger brother for them to leave me if not
they will kill me there. And I was there till this
morning when I heard a lot of noise, finally I
found out is a group security people and army
that surrounded the building fighting to rescue
and here I am today thanking God for saving
my life,”
